It’s been a hectic first few weeks and I don’t think it’s going to get any less hectic for sometime! To those of you who have been in, thank you for bearing with us! I don’t know about you, but I don’t know whether I’m coming or going!

One minute the guidelines say wait in the car, the next we can have 2 in the waiting room and then there’s a further lockdown in Manchester and we have to have less people in the practice again! One minute we can form a bubble, the next we can go to the pub, the next I can’t sit in my sister's garden, but I can go to a pub with her and 4 other friends!!! Whatever the rules, I can assure you, that all the Dental Lounge staff are taking every precaution whether it’s in our social lives or at work, to adhere to all social distancing rules.

We are very grateful for everyone’s understanding and patience during both lockdown and our re-opening. You will have read in the news about the costs of PPE ( the Darth Vadar costume!) and most practices are charging their patients anything from £20 to £50 per visit, if performing an AGP procedure ( which is pretty much most procedures in dentistry as it’s when using a drill!!).

Like many practices we have spent thousands on PPE and equipment to provide a safe environment. For the time being, as a thank you to all our Denplan patients who have stuck with their monthly payments and supported us, we have decided to absorb these costs as a practice rather than charging a PPE fee. We can’t promise that this will be permanent and we can’t promise it will be free for every visit if you require PPE for several visits. But any costs will be kept to a minimum and you will be informed before the appointment. If you aren’t a plan patient, we will let you know the cost before any treatment and we will do our best to keep the cost as low as we can.

We are coming to the end of our rebooking, If you haven't heard from us by the middle of September please phone us! We are trying our best, but inevitably we will miss someone! Especially if you cancelled an appointment pre lockdown but hadn’t rebooked, as this means that you won’t be on our day list printouts. Please respond to your emails or texts to confirm appointments, otherwise we have to assume that you can't make it.

So what changes will you see at the Dental lounge?

Well, due to Covid, we have been forced into adding a 3rd surgery to allow for leaving time in between patients for cleaning. We now have to leave an hour between patients if they are having certain treatments. We are actually really excited about this addition! However, we really did have to think about where on earth it was going to go! An extension was going to be expensive and a long process, so the obvious place is the reception. Just add a door and Bob’s your Uncle! Well, not quite, as there’s the mere addition of a new chair and all the other equipment necessary!

But how are we going to function without a reception? Easily!! Those of you that have been in already , know that you can pay in the surgery after treatment, or via a payment link on your phone or through your patient portal. As for booking appointments, we will be sending out recalls via text or phone calls . The appointment book will only be open 6 weeks ahead, so that will be better for everyone and hopefully avoid too many cancellations by you or us. It was always hard to know what our plans were when we booked 6 months in advance! However, myself, Julie and Rachel will still be around the practice and on hand if you have any queries.

We now have a new video door bell and automatic lock. So, don't worry about texting or calling when you arrive. We are now able to have more than 1 in the waiting room, so please come in wearing your mask and gel your hands on arrival.

The Patient portal seems to have been having a few teething issues! Please don't worry if you have trouble logging in. If it doesn't work after 2 attempts, just get in touch. You only need to update your medical history once a year or if anything changes. However, we do need you to be aware of the Covid risk assessment questions. Please do not come in if you are showing any symptoms, if you have been with anyone who has Covid or if you have travelled abroad during the 2 weeks before your appointment and you are due to self isolate.

Thanks again for all your support and understanding, it has been and still is a very odd time. Our priority at the Dental Lounge is your safety and well being. If you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to email us at or call us on 01614371250. If we don’t answer, please leave a message. We check the answer phone every 20 mins!

Our emergency /out of hours number is 07846515329. Please use this number ONLY for emergencies or if we have specifically asked you to use it for photos etc. Messages are getting lost or forgotten because we are having to check too many devices and methods! Please call the practice and leave a message if we don’t answer and we will get back to you, or email us.

Thanks again!
